49ers are 6-point Road Underdogs
The Minnesota Vikings almost got to the Super Bowl in 2017. This offseason, they added the franchise quarterback who had been the 49ers' target, Kirk Cousins, before the miracle Jimmy Garoppolo acquisition happened. So the Vikings understandably are a favorite.
Jimmy Garoppolo will have something to do with the outcome of today's game though. He's had a full training camp with Coach Kyle Shanahan and they've had the full summer to prepare for this game. Don't count out Jimmy G and this hungry 49ers team.
Against The Odds
49ers had been on a major downward trajectory once ex-head coach Jim Harbaugh left the franchise to join Michigan, but last year’s trade for former Patriots backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for a second-round pick could go down as one of the best deals in team history. San Francisco was 1-10 SU before pulling the trigger and went 5-0 in five games with Garoppolo under center.
They’ll need to rely heavily on him in order to reverse their misfortunes in Minnesota, as San Francisco is 0-5 SU in its past five road games vs the Vikings while averaging just 14.6 points per game.

Trent Williams’ $38.8M Cap Hit: Protecting the Blindside in 2026 By Niners Faithful Staff | Independent 49ers Coverage The Bottom Line: Trent Williams remains the gold standard for NFL left tackles, but his 2026 cap hit of $38.8M is the second-highest on the team. To keep the Super Bowl window open, the 49ers must decide between a massive option bonus payment or a strategic extension. Trent Williams (#71) continues to defy age, but his 2026 contract structure will require the 49ers' front office to get creative. The Silverback’s Security: Recap of the 2024 Holdout Resolution Following a high-stakes holdout in the summer of 2024, Trent Williams secured the "security" he desired. The 49ers rewarded the future Hall of Famer with a reworked three-year deal worth $82.66 million, ensuring he remained the highest-paid tackle at the time. Now, as we approach the 2026 league year, the "heavy" back-end of that deal has arrived. ...
The Bottom Line: Last May, the San Francisco 49ers locked in their franchise leader with a massive five-year, $265 million extension. As we approach the 2026 offseason, the "Faithful" are buzzing: How does this impact our ability to keep the core together? Will Paraag Marathe work his magic with a restructure? Brock Purdy’s 2026 contract structure plays a central role in how the 49ers manage the salary cap. The Brock Purdy Blueprint Navigating the 2026 Offseason & the $265M Extension 2026 Purdy Contract Snapshot Cap Hit: $24.8 Million Cash Due: $47 Million (Includes $37.75M Option Bonus) Total Guarantees: $181 Million Current Team Cap Space: ~$37 Million Will the 49ers Restructure Purdy in 2026?
