2025 San Francisco 49ers: Built for January
Regular Season Record: 12–5
Playoffs: Wild Card Victory • Divisional Round Ahead
The 2025 San Francisco 49ers season has been a masterclass in resilience and strategic rebuilding. After a disappointing 2024 campaign, the Niners roared back into the spotlight, silencing doubters and securing a 12–5 regular-season record.
This season hasn’t just been about wins and losses — it’s been about a team that rediscovered its identity under the Shanahan–Lynch era and reestablished itself as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.
A New Look in the Bay
The offseason marked a clear turning point. The Faithful said goodbye to longtime contributors Dre Greenlaw and Charvarius Ward, while the blockbuster trade sending Deebo Samuel to Washington signaled the start of a new chapter.
The most impactful move, however, came on the coaching staff. The return of Robert Saleh as Defensive Coordinator instantly reignited the unit. His trademark “All Gas, No Brake” mentality brought speed, physicality, and confidence back to a defense that struggled the year before.
Regular Season Dominance
Despite finishing third in a brutally competitive NFC West, the 49ers proved they belonged among the league’s elite. Several defining themes shaped the season:
- Offensive Firepower: With Kyle Kubiak calling plays, the offense piled up nearly 6,000 total yards, showcasing balance and explosiveness.
- The Return of the Defense: Saleh’s group clamped down when it mattered most, highlighted by a crucial Week 11 win over Arizona that effectively stamped San Francisco’s playoff return.
- Record Valuation: Off the field, the franchise reached historic heights, earning an $8.5 billion valuation — the highest ever for an NFL team.
Playoff Push: Striking the Eagles
The Wild Card round delivered a defining moment for this retooled roster. Traveling to Philadelphia to face the defending NFC champion Eagles, the 49ers leaned into their identity and escaped with a gritty 23–19 victory.
It was classic San Francisco football — disciplined, physical, and clutch in the biggest moments. The win sent a clear message across the conference: the 49ers are no longer rebuilding — they’re contending.
As the team prepares for a Divisional Round rematch against the Seattle Seahawks, the energy around Levi’s Stadium is electric. The path to Super Bowl LX — in San Francisco — is officially open.
It’s time to strike.
